The Joint Commission places emphasis on identifying ligature risks

Despite increased efforts to identify suicide risk among hospital patients, there are approximately 80 suicides that occur every year in healthcare facilities accredited by the Joint Commission. These sentinel events have caused surveyors to place additional emphasis on identifying ligature risks within psychiatric hospitals and certain areas within general hospitals, including emergency departments.

The Joint Commission recommends hospitals reference the Behavioral Health Design Guide for design and equipment recommendations to protect patients and caregivers. Several Agiliti products were recommended in the guide to help reduce the risk of these sentinel events. We’ve put together a Ligature-Resistant Products Kit with some product information and other helpful articles to get you up-to-speed quickly.
